S.E.E.D. Annual Fashion Show Saturday, 10 October 2015 from 19:00

This is going to be a great event and lots of people have worked very hard to put it all together. We also have lots of different people who are helping us out for free on the night be modelling, displaying their collections, performing live for us all and kind donation pieces for our auction.

Free Champagne on entry and free entry into Evoque nightclub in Preston afterwards included.

We really need to sell as many tickets as possible in order to make it all worthwhile for our charitable cause. If you cannot attend the event yourself, please consider putting our poster on social media (attached to this email) or even picking up some flyers from the office. There are two versions of the poster attached. The smaller version is better for Facebook etc as it has less text.

You can also buy your tickets via this link: http://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/seed-annual-fashion-show-tickets-16412598524?aff=es2

If you would like to help out at the event, please let me know. We always appreciate any extra support anyone can provide

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Kind regards,

Emily Morton

Background on Refugees and asylum seekers

The UK government is offering to accept 20,000 Syrian refugees selected from those still in the Middle East.

Before rushing in to offer your spare room or collect van loads of food to take to Calais take a few moments to read up on the situation.

There is very useful guidance from the Local Government association on the current refugee situation here

The asylum seeker and refugee population in the UK - and in Lancashire is already established and needs our support.

Government Statistics show

There were 25,771 asylum applications (main applicants) in YE June 2015, an increase of 10%

compared with the previous 12 months (23,515). The number of applications remains low relative

to the peak number of applications in 2002 (84,132).

• The largest number of applications for asylum came from nationals of Eritrea (3,568), followed

by Pakistan (2,302) and Syria (2,204). A total of 11,600 people were granted asylum or an

alternative form of protection.

Fw: Out now! Exciting new e-book "The Interfaith Movement"

"The Interfaith Movement" by Philip Lewis and Charlotte Dando.
View this email in your browser
"The Church of England has not only created space for the inclusion of other religious voices in the public sphere, but also actively facilitated and funded interfaith activities and must be commended for this. However, for the most difficult conversations to happen and for people from all faith and belief backgrounds to be full engaged, we must seek a truly equal playing field whereby the Church of England does not always assume the leadership role."

In 1942, in the shadow of the inhumanity of World War II, Archbishop William Temple co-founded the Council of Christians and Jews. Fast forward nearly sixty years and the question of Christian relations with Jewish people, and now more commonly with Muslims and other minority religions, remains pertinent. Circumstances and contexts have changed, but the difficulty of interreligious or interfaith relations is one which many people of faith (and indeed, many from non-religious backgrounds) are still grappling with.

In the fifth book in the Temple Tracts series on religion and public life, Philip Lewis and Charlotte Dando offer a critical introduction to the "Interfaith Movement". The authors track the historic development of interfaith work at both institutional and grassroots levels, with a special focus on Anglican-Muslim relations in England. From reflecting on successful interfaith work the authors move on to asking difficult questions about the role and sustainability of the interfaith movement, and propose a series of recommendations aimed at ensuring that this significant work has a strong and positive future.

'The Interfaith Movement' is available to download as an e-book for just £2.99.

New Parish Conference, Manchester, October 6

----- Original Message -----

Sent: Wednesday, September 09, 2015 5:57 PM
Subject: New Parish Conference, Manchester, October 6

a leaflet about a day conference coming up on Tuesday October 6 which should be of interest to anyone involved in, or supportive of, urban mission and ministry.

It is at Coverdale Church, from 10-1pm, includes drinks and lunch and cost is free (though a donation of at least £5 is requested).

Led by Paul Sparks and Ash Barker, the day is part of a national 'New Parish Conference Conversations Tour'. Topics covered will include:
• Discovering the way God is at work in the local in profoundly unseen and under-explored ways around the world.
• Exploring why the church needs to take "place" and "shared life" seri- ously and the profound reasons our context mandates a new parish.
• Learning how to be a church that is fully embedded in the everyday life of the parish (economy, civic, education, environment, etc).
• Offering practical lenses that will help practitioners discern what to do in their context without copying a ten-step plan from experts.

More info and a booking link is on the leaflet.

Hope to see you there.

yours

Paul & Derek
